Club Competitions
Cambridgeshire Club Competitions
Like many county organisations, Cambridgeshire RFU organises County Cup
competitions for its adult rugby clubs – there are also youth cup competitions. Until
now those cups have only been run for the men’s teams but it is hoped that as the
growth of the female game continues there will soon be a Cambridgeshire Women’s
County Cup.
In recent years, the County has run cup competitions at three levels for our men’s
teams:
The County Cup
The County Cup is for teams playing at level 6, 7 or 8 in the RFU’s English Clubs
Championship.
The Intermediate Cup
The County Intermediate Cup allows entry from teams which play at level 9, which is currently the Eastern Counties 1 league.
The Junior Cup
The County Junior Cup – for teams below level 9 – currently Eastern Counties 2.
Any club with a team at an appropriate level is able to enter the cup and we have
often been joined by teams close to the county border as well as those firmly within
Cambridgeshire.
Cup Finals are held in a single venue at the end of the season, with the most recent
such event being held at the Cambridge University Rugby Ground at Grange Road in
Cambridge. A great setting for the day and an experience we hope to repeat. In
recent times, the finals have also been held at Cantabrigian RFC, Saffron Walden,
Shelford, Newmarket, Ely, Wisbech and Cambridge.
